Established in 1994, The New Choral Singers is a four-voice mixed ensemble located on the island of Malta. Throughout the years it has grown in numbers and now consists of approximately 45 singing members. Robert Calleja, who had acted as assistant choirmaster since 1999, took over the musical direction of the ensemble from Marika Fenech in 2004.
Over the years the choir acquired a discrete reputation within the local choir scene due to numerous performances in select venues such as St. John's Co-Cathedral in Valletta, the Mdina Metropolitan Cathedral, St. Paul’s Pro-Anglican Cathedral, Bir Miftuh Chapel and many others.
During 2008 the Choir has also been invited to participate in the Summer Arts Festival organised by the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts, and also travelled to the UK where the singers gave 3 concert performances in the area round the Cotswolds.
The Choir holds a varied repertoire of both sacred and secular music that spans the eras from Medieval to contemporary. Consequently, the choir frequently lends itself to different activities ranging from weddings, fund raising and corporate events, to concert performances and other activities for the musical delight of audiences of all ages. A sample of the repertoire that is generally adapted for wedding masses can be viewed on the ‘Weddings’ page of this site.
